peregrine
That spaceship fellow in that film about moving bricks? Love him.
Peregrine was born and raised on the planet Hyperion in a galaxy far from the Milky Way. Hyperians are an advanced alien species with a vast amount of technology at their fingertips. They are a generally peaceful race, focused on the study of the ever-expanding universe around them. For centuries Hyperians have traveled throughout the universe as a means to learn, explore and experience however much they may find. Often when a Hyperian comes of age they leave their home for decades at a time, returning only when they feel compelled to start a family on Hyperion. Many never return. Because of this, Hyperians are also a small species. It is thanks to their cloaking technology that their planet has remained unmolested by more dangerous, warmongering species. The location of Hyperion is unknown to the vast majority of the universe. Only Hyperians and those they trust have the knowledge of how to find home.
Peregrine left after his twenty-first birthday, somewhat later than most Hyperians choose, but he had been attending to his mother who had grown ill. Despite advanced medicines on Hyperion there were still some diseases that have yet to be cured. Being the only child of his parents, and since his father had left for the stars shortly after his birth, Peregrine was compelled to stay by his mother's side for however long she would need him. Even after her passing it took him some time to make his departure. He felt bitter about leaving as it was how his father had abandoned him and his mother.
Though his departure was bittersweet, Peregrine found great joy in his explorations of the universe. Since that day he has been traveling from one planet to another, studying their various cultures and taking part in their lives. He is especially interested in cultural celebrations and the creative arts. After several years traveling through the known universe, Peregrine's ship was knocked off course by a meteor shower. He found himself crash landing on an uncharted planet. Upon meeting a few locals he found that the planet was called Earth, and that the Earthlings had no idea of the life teeming throughout the universe.
As is the general nature of Hyperians, Peregrine is extremely inquisitive. With every new experience he has a million questions. He often gets so excited at this juncture that said questions often come out more like a flood than a slow trickle. He is fascinated by every new experience and discovery. Even something that might seem mundane is like a treasure to him.
Peregrine is amiable for the most part. He visits each planet with an open heart and mind. He never leaves a planet without making friends because he is so easy to get along with. He is an ear to listen and a shoulder to cry on. Occasionally he will sacrifice his own feelings and desires for another's in order to avoid conflict.
Very few things will upset him, but at the top of the list is his father. Though Peregrine is kind to a fault and will often forgive those who have wronged him, his father is someone he cannot forgive. He avoids talk of him because it angers him, which he feels ruins any conversation or meeting he is participating in. If he is coaxed into talking about his father, it usually leads to him shutting down. It's a shadow of his past that he would prefer to leave behind, but seems unable to.
EMPATHY: Hyperians can literally take on another being's emotions to better understand a situation. They can also endow their emotions on a willing participant. It is what allows them to remain so peaceful.
GILLS/WEBBING: Hyperians have gills along their neck that close off when not in water. They work in lieu of their lungs when in water. This is likely an evolutionary trait as their planet is almost entirely covered in water. They also have a slight webbing to their hands and feet for better swimming. They have developed technology that cloaks their appearance to look closer to the host species of a planet. When not using this technology Peregrine has a bluish-green undertone to his skin.
SPEED: Hyperians have advance speed, especially in water.
Healing: Though not anything miraculous, Hyperians do heal at a faster rate than humans. What might take weeks for a human to heal from would take days for a Hyperian.
